  • Use a shampoo + conditioner or repairing mask for curly or dry hair.
Having a well-cared for curly hair is all about nourishment and hydration. Hydration is the key for well-defined curls and frizz prevention.
When it comes to conditioners/masks, don't be afraid to use a lot of it on the ends of your hair - your dry ends will usually absorb everything. The curly parts of your hair are usually the dry ones so avoid applying conditioner on the roots because those are more likely to get greasy.

    Here are a few recommendations:
  • Invest in a good-quality curl-defining cream.
These creams are your absolute saviors and your best friends when you have curly hair. They keep your curls in place, controlling volume and frizz during most of the day. Apply it on your curls on your damp hair after the shower or in the morning. Keep reading for more on this.

    These are some great creams:

  • Use a detangling brush to untangle your hair in the shower. Untangling curly hair is usually a very complicated and painful task. Forget about the combs with large teeth or whatever people have told you. The BEST way to untangle your curly hair quickly and painlessly in the shower is using a detangling brush.
The reason why these brushes are so great is the fact that they have a lot of small teeth, which untangle your hair very easily without your locks getting stuck in the brush's teeth.

  • Rubbing your hair with a towel to dry it is a big no-no!
Whatever you do, do not rub your hair with the towel when you're drying it! This creates frizz and tangles your hair up all over again. So, just don't do it.
What you can do is wear the towel on your head like a turban for a while letting it absorb the water. Then, just remove the towel and carefully squeeze your hair with the towel to get rid of any excess water (but avoid twisting the hair with the towel!).
Finally, just apply a curl-defining cream all over your hair, starting from the ends. This will keep your curls in place and you can sort of comb them again with your fingers as you apply it (only use a brush if the hair isn't almost dry, otherwise the frizz will come out!).
  • Air-dry your hair.
Air-drying your hair is a safer option to avoid frizz.
If you do have to dry your hair during the winter or if you wash it at night, then I suggest using a hair dryer with a diffuser - these great little accessories minimize frizzing because they don't make your hair fly around when you're blow drying it.

    Here are a few examples:

Don't even think about combing or brushing your hair!
Curly hair isn't meant to be combed or brushed when it's dry. In fact, this is about the worst thing you can do to your curls. It destroys them because it separates the locks of hair, which will also cause frizz.

Because curly hair usually gets a little disheveled from sleeping, what you can do in the morning (if you don't wash your hair on that day) is dampen it with water and apply a small amount of curl-defining cream on the frizziest sections. This will redefine your curls and control frizz.
It's as simple as that. Oh, and avoid rain - umbrellas and coats with a hood are your best friends!

Having curly hair is a lot of work but it's totally worth it! We hope these tips help you get those luscious curls you've been trying to achieve!
